EXIM Bank Tanzania has announced a sponsorship package of seven million shillings to this year’s Safari International Marathon scheduled to begin in Arusha on sunday.
A statement issued in Dar es Salaam by the Exim Bank Managing Director Anthony Grant yesterday said the bank’s sponsorship is in line with the bank’s philosophy of nurturing various sports talent across the country.
“We today announce to sponsor this year’s Safari International Marathon in a bid to support local talent development. We believe platforms like the Safari International Marathon can be a catalyst in producing good sports ambassadors both nationally and internationally,” Grant said.
Grant however said his bank will continue supporting various sports activities in the years ahead because the bank realizes the importance of sports.
According to the Safari International Marathon Event Coordinator Victor Mollel,all is set for this year’s Safari International Marathon who expressed optimism that this year’s event will be better than last year’s.
According to him, the event will cover races that include a 21-kilometre Half Marathon, 10km Disabled Race, 5km Corporate Challenge, 5km Kids Competition and 5km Family Run adding that most of the events would start and end at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha where the winners will be awarded.
Mollel said the event is expected to attract over 1500 young athletics from Tanzania, as well as participants from other Eas Afican Community member states that include Kenya and Uganda as well as participants from the United States of America.
“Professional Athletes from Kenya have also been invited to participate in order to build the athletic culture. Foreign tourists have also registered for participating in the Marathon events,” he added.
The annual Safari International Marathon is purely intended for promoting tourism industry as well as uniting corporate companies and institutions.
